Waddington Ribble Valley and Forest of Bowland Circular Tour

A 20 mile  cycle route on which you will encounter some severe climbs so be prepared. The  cycle route takes you from the beautiful village of Waddington and you cycle through some remote villages in the Ribble Valley and then you cycle up past The Forest of Bowland to the villages of Newton and Slaidburn before returning via the villages of Grindleton and West Bradford. The Ribble Valley is rated as one of the UK’s most picturesque areas, so stop and enjoy the countryside along your cycle ride. The route is mainly along remote rural lanes with the occasional section on ‘B’ roads.

Starting from Waddington Post Office which situated on Belle Vue Lane at the top end of Waddington village cycle down the hill and after 50 yards TURN RIGHT along Belle Vue lane and after 100 yards TURN LEFT on to Twitter Lane. Continue to cycle along Twitter lane for about one and three quarters of a mile where you come to the village of Bashall Town.

Ribble Valley

Continue through bashall Town and follow the lane round to the right and climbing the steep hill towards Bashall Eaves which is approximately one and three quarters of a mile along the lane. Continue to cycle along the lane through the village and up the hill for 2 miles to the village of Cow Ark. By this point you have climbed approximately 600 feet and are on the edge of Bowland Forest which dates bavk to the times of The Domesday Book. At the small village of Cow Ark you TURN RIGHT AND 200 YARDSTURN RIGHT.

Continue to cycle up the severe climb past Bowland Forest on your right and down the other side of the hill. After cycling for about 3 miles from cow Ark you come to a ‘T’ junction with Hallgate Hill B6478. At the junction TURN LEFT and cycle quarter of mile to the village of Newton-in-Bowland passing over the small river on the way. In the village there is a pub ‘The Parker Arms’ you may be ready for some refreshments by now before your return journey.

Continue through Newton-in-Bowland keeping to the B6478 as it bends to the right and you find your self cycling alongside the river on your right and after approximately you come to the village of Slaidburn.
Continue through Slaidburn keeping to the B6478 as it turns right out of the village and you pass over the river again and a half a mile after the river you TURN RIGHT along a country lane and THEN TURN LEFT and cycle along this road for 5 miles to the village of Grindleton.

At the centre of Grindleton you come to ‘T’ junction at the junction TURN RIGHT on to Grindleton Brow and follow the road for 1 mile to the village of West Bradford. Continue through West Bradford and cycle out of the village along Grindleton Road, which runs on to Waddington Road which in turn runs on to West Bradford road and about 1 mile after West Bradford you return to the beautiful village of Waddington. The start/finish of your cycle ride.

Waddington has been voted ‘best kept village’ on numerous occasions and on May Bank
Holiday each year the village holds a ‘scarecrow festival. Waddington has several pubs, a post office and a few shops.
