Start from the quayside at Tayport and cycle along Dalgleish Street which in turn runs onto Common Road. When you reach the top of Common Road bear right onto the coastal path and cycle along the coast towards the Tay Bridge in the distance taking in the views as you cycle along.

After about one and three quarter miles you reach the Tay road bridge. Turn right along the bridge and cross to the other side cycling on the dedicated cycle way across the bridge.

When you reach the other side of the bridge turn right down South Marketgate and after about 100 yards turn right onto Camperdown Street.

Continue to cycle along Camperdown Street along the waterfront which runs onto Stannergate Road and then onto Broughty Ferry Road. Continue to cycle along this road and at the end of Broughty Ferry Road continue to cycle along the roads which keep you near the waters edge.

Following this route you will travel along Primrose bank, then right along Douglas Terrace, James Place, Fisher Street and then onto Beach Crescent which takes you to Broughty Castle. There is said to have been a castle on this site since1454.
