Exmouth to Budleigh Salterton

Exmouth to Budleigh Salterton – A 4 mile easy cycle ride which takes you from Exmouth situated on the Jurassic coast along a traffic free cycle path and ‘B’ roads to Budleigh Salterton. Cycle hire is available in Exmouth from Exmouth Cycle Hire, Victoria Road, Exmouth.

Starting from Phear Park in Exmouth cycle away from the tennis courts to the far left of the park. As you near the far side of the park you come to a path which crosses your path. TURN LEFT along the path. Cycle along the path for about half a mile to the end of the path. At the end of the path TURN RIGHT on to Bradham Lane.

Cycle 100 yards to the end of the road and TURN LEFT AND THEN TURN SECOND RIGHT (after 50 yards) along Littleham Road.  cycle along Littleham Road and follow the road round to the right as it runs on to Cranford Ave, then TURN FIRST LEFT up Jarvis Close.

Cycle to the end of Jarvis Close and then continue along the path straight in front of you. This is the start of the old railway line which is now a cycle path. Cycle along the path and after 150 yards it takes you straight across Littleham Road.

 

You now cycle along the tree lined trail as it takes you out of Exmouth along the route of the old railway line towards Knowle. As you leave the suburbs of Exmouth the trail takes you under Capel Lane and in to open countryside. At this point if you look across to your righ you will see St Margaret and St Andrews church in Littleham it is here that Lady Nelson is buried.

After about 1 mile you pass under a bridge as you near the village of Knowle and as you
cycle along the trail is in a deep cutting which was cut out by hand when the railway line was built. Continue for about another three quarters of a mile to the end of the cycle trail where you come to junction with Bears Lane. TURN RIGHT down Bears hill Lane.
At the end of Bears Lane TURN RIGHT  and then after 200 yards TURN LEFT down Knowke Road. After 500 yards you come to a cross roads. At the junction GO STRAIGHT AHEAD down Little Knowle and cycle for 300 yards to the end of the road where you come to a ‘T’ junction. At the junction TURN LEFT down West Hill which runs on to High Street and takes you down to the waterfront on Fore Street. The end of your ride…
