Approximate distance 19 miles (small detour into Acton Burnell add another 0.5 miles or so)
Route takes you around the countryside of Shropshire, through quiet lanes around the villages of Acton Burnell, Cound and Berrington, only touching the A458 for a few hundred yards. Some gradients – especially around Kenley and Harnage Grange – but nothing significant.
Some fine buildings may be seen on the route – including Condover Hall, an Elizabethan sandstone manor house and (with very minor detour) Acton Burnell historic castle and church.

Start from village of Cressage, located 10 miles south if Shrewsbury just off the A458 (map ref SJ59083 04137). Cressage has a pub (Eagles Inn).

From main street in Cressage, at intersection of B4380 and the A458 and with the B4380 on your right, head up the A458 (towards Shrewsbury) for 100 yards and take the first turning on your Left (Crown Lane), almost immediately turn Right into Shore Lane and follow this for approximately 1.5 until you reach a cross roads – turn Right (heading north) towards the village of Harnage.

Follow the road through Harnage and drop down into the village of Cound.

As you enter the village you pass the Church on your right – just past the church turn sharp Left at the T junction signposted Pitchford (by some tennis courts on your left) and enter Upper Cound.

Within a quarter of a mile turn Right at the T junction signposted Pitchford

Turn Right at next T junction signed Cross Houses and cycle over Cound Bridge which passes over Cound Brook. Continue down road, passing the Venus Pool Nature Reserve on your right until you reach the junction with the A458.

Turn Left at the T junction onto the A458 (caution!) towards Cross Houses for approximately 200 yards and then take next Left to Berrington
Upon entering Berrington, you pass a church on your right and where a telephone box is on the corner, follow road as it bears left through the village towards Condover.

Stay on this road, going over the cross road (signposted Boreton) for approximately 2 miles until just after passing over Cound Brook (again) at Boreton Ford you reach a T junction and turning Left follow road (Lyons Lane) towards Condover village

As you approach outskirts of Condover and turn Left at T junction (signposted Frodesley) and after crossing bridge (hey it’s Cound Brook again!), by a large farm take next Left signposted Cantlop. Follow road into Cantlop and then go Right at the cross-roads in the village (south)

Turn Right at crossroads signposted Pitchford. Follow road, passing Pitchford Hall on your right.

Pass through Pitchford towards Acton Burnell. As you enter outskirts of Acton Burnell, take the lane on your Left (signposted Kenley) Follow this lane for approx. 2.5 miles as it climbs steadily all the way to the T Junction at Kenley

Note – you may wish to make a very short detour before turning Left to kenley by going straight on into Acton Burnell and checking out Acton Burnell castle (a 13th Century sandstone ruin) which can can be found just south of the village (follow signs) and makes for an interesting detour.

Upon reaching outer edge of Kenley village (bit of a gradient here) – turn Left at T junction signposted Harley and follow road downhill, through Kenley until you hit (not literally!) a junction after about 2 miles where you turn Left into Wood Lane signposted Harnage Grange and Cressage.

Within approx. 400 yards you come to another junction at the edge of a small wooded area – keep Right on Wood Lane through Park Coppice back towards Cressage

After about 1.5 miles you come into Cressage at the junction of the A458. turn Left (Caution) and cycle the 200 yards back to your start point.
