Hereford Loop

An easy 6 mile cycle route which takes you from the centre of Hereford westward and out
into the nearby countryside. The route is flat and takes you along country lanes and ‘B’ roads with an off road section along the return section of the cycle ride.

Hereford is a cathedral city, and county town of Herefordshire. Situated on the River Wye and it is the largest settlement in the county. Hereford Cathedral dates from 1079 and contains the Mappa Mundi, a medieval map of the world dating from the 13th century which was restored in the late 20th century. It also contains the world famous Chained Library. The city is also famous for once being the home of the British Special Air Service (SAS). You will find an abundance of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants to enjoy in Hereford

Staring from the junction of barton Road and Broomy Hill cycle left along Broomy Hill and cycle along Broomy Hill out of town following the path of The River Wye on your left. After one and a half miles you come to a ‘T’ junction.

At the junction TURN LEFT on to Breinton Road and cycle along Breinton Road for three quarters of a mile to Lower Breinton. At Lower Breinton follow the road as it bends to the right and after 300 yards you come to a ‘T’ junction.

At the junction TURN LEFT and cycle along the lane for a quarter of a mile to Upper Breinton. At Upper Breinton BEAR RIGHT along Breinton Lane, signposted for Swainshill. Cycle along the road past the fruit farm on your left and after about 500 yards TURN RIGHT along Green Lane.

After about 200 yards you come to the end of Green Lane where you GO STRAIGHT AHEAD along the bridle path and continue through the wood. After about half a mile passing the pond on your right Bear Left keeping to the bridle path which takes you along the south side of Drovers Wood.

Continue along the way until you come to Westfaling Street where you STRAIGHT OVER the roundabout and TURN LEFT on to Homer Street. Then take the second turning on the right in to Scudamore Street and then RIGHT in to Cornewall Street.

GO RIGHT at the ‘T’ junction and then LEFT on to Chandos Street. At the end of Chandos Street TURN RIGHT by the Cider Museum along Ryeland Street and after about 300 yards TURN LEFT along Breinton Road and after 200 yards you come to the junction of Barton Road and Broomy Hill. The start/finish of your cycle ride.
