Ludlow to Ludlow

Ludlow Loop (North) – 18 miles
Route starts and finishes in historic town of Ludlow, with it’s castle dominating the top of
town and it’s entrance guarded by the town square which has a fine collection of medieval and Georgian buildings, something which the town abounds with. Plenty of pubs, coffee shops and accommodation. Route passes through hamlet of Stoke St Milboroughand and passes close to an ancient medieval village by Cold Weston.

Route is on mostly quiet, good quality roads, although you do spend some a little time on the B4364. Some climbing, especially as you pass near Brown Clee Hill which is just to the north east of St Milborough. Also caution is needed on return leg to Ludlow at Whitbatch Farm where the road drops steeply with a sharp bend at the bottom.

Start at Ludlow Railway station – turn Left out of station into Station Drive.
Cycle up slope until you hit traffic lights and turn Right into Upper Galdeford. Follow road around as it goes around a sharp left corner at the supermarket.
After passing Police Station on your right, take Second Right into Stevenson Road.
After about 500 yards turn Left over the railway bridge, signed Caynham
After 200 yards you come to a T junction – turn Right and use cycle path and crossing to carry on straight over the busy A49.
Turn Left signposted Henley and after about 400 yards you cross over the river and pass through Lower Ledwyche.

After ¼ mile take sharp Right turn off the B road, signposted Stoke St Millborough
Follow this road (signposted) for about 1.25 miles all the way to village of Stoke St Milborough. Stoke St Millborough is an ancient village with church, phone box and St Milburgha’s Well (where the village gets it’s name). You should also be able to see Brown Clee Hill on your right about 2miles away which is the highest point in Shropshire.

Just as you pass through the St Milborough, take the Left, signposted Cold Weston.

After approximately 1.75 miles take a Left signposted Ludlow.

After 800 yards you come to a T junction, (with a road approaching from the right) – turn Left at this crossroads signposted Ludlow.

Just past this T junction you pass Pearce Cycles on the left – a well stocked quality bike shop well worth a visit.

Follow road over the bridge spanning the A49 and as you enter Ludlow, turn Right and pas under the railway bridge.
Almost immediately after going under the railway line, turn Left after the aptly named Bridge Pub into Corve Street. Join the B4361 and after about ¼ mile turn Left at the T junction into Station Drive which brings you back to the station.
