Stratford Upon Avon to Charlecote Park and return round route. – 19 miles

Cycle route takes you from the centre of Stratford out into the
English countryside to Charlecote Park. Where If you wish you can visit one of Englands finest tudor mansions. You will return via some country lanes back to Stratford, where there are many places of interest and establishments for various refreshments. You may encounter some small gradual hills along this lovely route.

Starting from Henley Street in Stratford upon Avon. This street is the home of the world famous Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and William Shakespear’s place of birth just a little further up the street.

Looking out from Anne Hathaway’s Cottage cycle left down Henley Street past the brasserie on your left to the roundabout, about 150 yards and at the roundabout carry straight on down Bridge street.
Carry on cycling along Bridge Street for about 300 yards where it will merge with another road called Bridge Foot (follow the one way system) At Bridge Foot (A3400) bear to the right along Bridge foot for approx 200 yards. This will tale you over the bridge as you start to leave Stratford Upon Avon.
As you reach the other side of the river you will come to a turning on your left the B4086. Turn left onto the B4086. Note; if you reach a roundabout you have gone too far and missed your turning.
Cycle along the B4086 also known as Tiddington Road and you will pass through the leafy suburbs of Stratford. After passing Stratford Upon Avon Golf Club on your right you will start to enter the village of Tiddington. As you reach the centre of the village the road changes its name to Main Street. Carry on along this road and after about 500 yards after the village the road bends sharply to your right and changes its name once again, this time to Wellsbourne Road. Cycle along this road through the village of Alveston and out into the rural countryside wher the twists and turns through the lovely farmland on each side of the road.
After about 2 miles after Alveston you will come to a farm house on your left and a small road junction.
At this junction you will see Wellsbourne airfield over the road and slightly to your right.
At this junction turn left towards Charlecote Park. As you cycle along this rural road you will reach Charlecote Park Tudor Mansion on your left after half a mile. This National Trust Tudor Mansion is well worth a visit and also has a tea shop, gift shop and some splendid country walks around its grounds.
As you carry on your cycle ride past Charlecote Park you will come to a small country lane on your right after about 100 yards past Charlecot Park. Turn right down this lane.
After about 1 mile you will reach the end of the lane. Turn right at the roundabout at end of

the lane onto the B4086/A429. After about 700 yards you will reach another roundabout. Carry on straight ahead over the roundabout which will take you along another country lane (Wellsbourne Road) through a small wooded area towards the village of Loxley, which is about 2.5 miles along this lane.
As reach reach Loxley the road bends sharp right. As it does bear right onto Stratford Road.
Follow this road for approx 5.5 miles which will eventually bring to a ‘T’ junction on Tiddington Road just outside Stratford Upon Avon. At This ‘T’ junction turn left and after about 150 yards you will reach the bridge (Bridge Foot) which will take you back into the heart of Stratford Upon Avon.
