This cycle ride takes you from the small village of Hutton
along country lanes and ‘B’ roads to the village of Sledmere with its lovely Georgian mansion, Sledmere House. The ride is predominately flat and on tarmac all the way along its 13 mile route.

Starting from Church Street near the centre of the village of Hutton cycle along Church Street in the direction of Hutton Balk away from Howl Lane. After 150 yards TURN RIGHT along Hutton Baulk which will take you out of the village and after 350 yards you come to a cross road junction with the A164. GO STRAIGHT ACROSS THE JUNCTION continuing along Hutton Baulk in the direction of the village of Southburn.

After about three quarters of a mile you pass the site of the old Southburn Railway Station
which used to be on the Selby to Driffield Line. It opened in 1890 and closed 1954. Continue along the road bearing right through the village of Southburn and about 300 yards after the village you come to a ‘T’ junction. At the junction TURN RIGHT along Southburn Road and THEN IMMEDIATE LEFT (after 100 yards) along Gravelpit Lane. Follow Gravelpit Lane along as it bends sharply to the right by passing the village of Kirkburn and then TURN LEFT on to Eastlands Road after about 500 yards. Note:- An interesting fact is that Kirkburn was originally known as Westburn at the time of the Domesday Book, the name was changed to Kirkburn after the building of St. Mary’s Church in the village between 1130 to 1155; the word “kirk” meaning “church”.
Continue along Eastlands Road for three quarters of a mile until you come to the small
village of Tibthorpe. At the center of the village you come to a cross road. At the cross roads TURN RIGHT along Marshal Hill B1248 towards Wetwang. Cycle along this road for two and a half miles to Wetwang . Note the road changes its name along the way to Beverley Road.

When you reach Wetwang TURN LEFT along Main Street and then after about 100 yards TURN RIGHT along Station Hill which takes you past the site of the old Wetwang railway Station and out of the village.

Follow this country road for about three miles to its end where you come to a ‘T’ Junction. At the junction TURN RIGHT along the B1251 and cycle along this road about half a mile where it brings you to the village of Sledmere. As you enter the village of Sledmere you pass Sledmere House on your right. Sledmere House is a Georgian country house, containing Chippendale, Sheraton and French furnishings and many fine pictures, set in its own parkland. The original part of the house was built in about 1751.
